Yesterday, US-Israeli airstrikes bombed the historic Pasteur Institute in Tehran, a century-old health research center and part of the international Pasteur network. Founded in 1920, the institute has played a key role in disease research, epidemic control, and vaccine production in Iran and the broader Middle East for over a century.

The more civilian infrastructure we destroy in Iran and the more we set back their economy, the more determined Iran will be to extract the maximum possible toll from oil passing through what is now their strait. That toll will be paid by us and the rest of the world through a higher cost of living. So just be aware that every video of a bridge being blown up, a pharmaceutical plan destroyed, a medical clinic flattened, is a video of something *you* are going to pay to rebuild.

💢🇮🇶 Three members of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed in a U.S.-Israeli strike on the 53rd Brigade in Tal Afar, a city in Nineveh province in northwestern Iraq near the Syrian border, the Iraqi News Agency reported Thursday. The Islamic Resistance of Iraq, an umbrella of mostly Iran-aligned armed factions in Iraq, said it had carried out 41 retaliatory operations against U.S. bases in Iraq and the region on Wednesday, deploying “dozens of drones and missiles.” The statement was reported by Iran’s state news agency ISNA.

💢 Strikes on Iranian pharmaceutical facilities constitute war crimes under international law, independent experts told Deutsche Welle Persian, as evidence emerges of a healthcare collapse across the country. Iran’s deputy health minister said approximately 24 pharmaceutical and medical facilities have sustained partial or total damage since the war began. Tofigh Daru, Iran’s largest producer of cancer drugs, anesthetics, and surgical medications, was completely destroyed on March 31. ▪️ A cancer patient told the Iranian newspaper Sharg they approached the MAHAK cancer charity for basic post-chemotherapy medication and were told: “We don’t have any either” ▪️ Non-emergency surgeries are being postponed due to anesthesia shortages ▪️ In some Tehran neighborhoods, a single doctor is seeing 200 to 300 patients per day Human rights physicians Hasan Nayeb-Hashem and Hamid Hemmatpour, both based in Austria, told DW the strikes fall “outside all legal frameworks of war.” Israel has claimed Tofigh Daru supplied chemicals to a Revolutionary Guard weapons program — an assertion Nayeb-Hashem flatly rejected.

I knew Dr. Kamal Kharazi from my time in cognitive science. He has a PhD in industrial psychology from the University of Houston, and he used his connections to build something like an NIH for cognitive science in Iran — funding research, founding institutes. Today, his home was bombed. His wife was killed. He is critically injured. Either this was indiscriminate — bombing residential neighborhoods — which is terrifying. Or it was targeted — assassinating an 80-year-old academic-diplomat in his home — which is also terrifying. There is no good version of this story. And now I'm thinking about my other colleagues still in Iran.

📌 Statement from The People of the Border Villages, an informal group: — History Repeats Itself In 1975, the army disintegrated and disappeared from the border region, which faced danger with bare bodies. The tragedy unfolded in all its dimensions: unarmed civilians besieged, with no support or aid. Today, the army remains intact, numbering eighty thousand soldiers, and its readiness is incomparable to what it was in the 1970s. Yet the expected farce has begun to unfold, as army units withdraw from the towns of Rmeish, Ain Ebel, and Debel, abandoning their duty and leaving thousands of Lebanese to face their fate on their own, struggling to secure basic necessities in what resembles a fight for survival. As citizens, we do not know whether the withdrawal orders are political, military, or both. In either case, the betrayal of trust is an unforgivable sin — a conscious act carried out with prior intent. In the midst of this disgraceful scene, we cannot say, “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.” We, the Lebanese people, and the world at large, are watching how the state abandons its responsibilities and role in the darkest of times. Faced with this reality, we say to those who must hear: the people of the border villages — Christian, Druze, and Sunni — have decided to remain on their land and in their homes. We had hoped the Shiite villages would be included in this decision, but we know this Lebanese community is captive, facing a fate it did not choose. Yes, as throughout our history, we will remain on our land. We will manage our affairs with God’s help and our steadfast Lebanese will. We will defend ourselves with whatever means are available, and we will not hesitate to do what is necessary to achieve this rightful goal, recognized by all laws and norms. From now on, let the failing state and the corrupt, complicit authorities know that the war will end, the darkness will fade, and the sun of truth will rise. And then, standing with truth and justice, we will establish courts and hold every traitor, agent, and corrupt figure accountable. Know this: we will change the course of history, and we will not allow it to repeat itself. The People of the Border Villages March 31, 2026

🗳️ Trump signs executive order creating national voter list, restricting mail-in voting President Donald Trump signed an executive order Tuesday directing the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration to create a national list of verified eligible voters and seeking to bar the U.S. Postal Service from sending absentee ballots to those not on state-approved lists. Voting law experts say the move unconstitutionally usurps states’ authority to run elections. Federal funding could be withheld from states that do not comply.

💢 Israel says it carried out more than 400 strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure in the past 48 hours, according to official statements reported by Channel 12. Sites hit include a claimed central Defense Ministry complex, weapons production facilities, and key economic facilities. Among them appears to be the Mobarakeh Steel Company, Iran’s largest steel plant, which satellite imagery suggests took a direct hit and sustained heavy damage after being struck at least a second time during this war. It deals a major blow to Iran’s economy, and eliminates a key revenue source amid oil sanctions.

President Donald Trump claimed on Truth Social that Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian had “asked” for a ceasefire, warning he would bomb the country “back to the Stone Ages” unless the Strait of Hormuz reopens. Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked market reactions to misread remarks from Tehran, calling it “out-of-context quotes + manufactured FOMO = war profiteering 101” — essentially a critique of panic-driven trading that saw stock market indexes rise over 3% since Monday morning. Tehran’s actual position has not changed: it may end the war on its stated conditions, including control over access through the Strait of Hormuz.
